“Egyptian Blue” Art Print
The Chroma Skulls series is inspired by the history of artist pigments throughout the world. Egyptian blue is the world's oldest known synthetic pigment.
Egyptian Blue was popular from around 3300 BCE until the decline of the Roman Empire. It was made by crushing up a copper silicate (the copper lent it its blue color) and was seen by the Egyptians as a synthetic Lapis Lazuli. Although its use as an artist pigment has declined, there has been a renewed interest in the chemical composition and formation of Egyptian Blue today, where its crystalline structure plays a part in medical imaging technology.
This illustration features a domestic cat skull and was painted digitally and ethically, without the use of AI. It’s printed on luster photo paper at 11”x17” with no extra bleed.
